Mourinho: no enemy of mine

There is no love lost between Manuel Pellegeini and new Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, if you believe everything that has been written about their relationship in the past.

Yet the Hammers boss insists that he will welcome the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager to the LOS this weekend when Spurs visit West Ham for their first outing under the new coach.

When asked whether he sees "eye to eye" with Mourinho, Pellegrini said: "I have answered the question a lot of times.

"Maybe I think a different way to him, but he is not my enemy. Everyone has their options to play football the way they want and say what they want to say. We just have different ways of thinking about it all.

"We have been out of football a lot of times together, but I repeat he is not my enemy."

And despite maintaining a quite different approach to Mauricio Pochettino, the manager Mourinho replaced earlier this week, Pellegrini believes that Tottenham will arrive at the LOS with a largely unchanged tactical plan.

"Of course the philosophy of Pochettino is not the same as the philosophy of Mourinho, but he's only been in charge of the team for two days," mused Pellegrini. "So I don't think that he will have tried to change much.

"I think we will see Tottenham play a similar way but with some touches of what Mourinho's football is - and that is not the most difficult problem to solve during the game."

Despite their lowly position - Spurs go into the game just two places ahead of West Ham, in 14th spot - Pellegrini believes they will nonetheless provide the Hammers with a formidable test this weekend.

"Tottenham has a very good team with important players who make the difference," he said. "You cannot know what has happened there but the results were not what they are used to having.

"Now they have a new manager - unfortunately for Mauricio Pochettino, who did a very good job over a number of years. I don't know the reason why he was sacked.

"But now they have another experienced manager in Jose, who will bring important things to his team."
